RE Drinking .. if you want a UK night out put your watch forward 3hrs not 1hr.. no one goes out until at least 10;30, al the good night spots are outside of the town center. no bars play music like the uk.,
I’m thinking about going on a walking holiday in Cyprus next year, possibly using Paphos as a base as it looks fairly close to the Troodos Mountains and the Akamas peninsula. Can anyone recommend any good walks nearby or suggest a particular area that I should see?

It is extremely safe here in Cyprus, and you have picked just the right areas to explore.. Yes, Paphos is probably the best place for you to base yourself, which is within easy reach of the Troodos, and the Akamas Peninsula.

I will be needing a international frame backpack. I am going to be traveling the US, bag will need to hold like at least 35 lbs.
Most people carry suitcases for traveling and backpacks for backpacking in the woods. In the US most people aren’t walking from city to city, they take a plane, bus, rarely a train, less well off people share a ride with people they know or fellow travelers, or more well off people rent a car for the extent of their travels.
I suppose if one were traveling from one wilderness area to another with wilderness backpacking being the main purpose of their vacation one could buy an good quality internal frame backpack that would comfortably hold 35 lbs of gear and food that would fit in the overhead compartment of the plane.
As an ultralight backpacker I can’t recommend you purchase a high end Arc’Teryx Maia 50 Pack http://www.rei.com/product/747115, but it’s 3,051 cu. in. / 50L volume gives you a general idea of the size you’ll need, which is my answer to your question. I am planning a last minute vacation to the Grand Canyon. I have two air tickets that will expire at the end of the year and want to visit the Grand Canyon. Is it a good an idea to go in December? What hotel do you recommend? What are good activities to do while in the Grand Canyon in addition to hiking? Please help… I want to make it an unforgettable trip for my husband.
You are going to have so much fun at the Grand Canyon, it is so beautiful in December. The temperature is just right, not too hot.

Mother’s day is right around the corner and my brothers and I would like to get her some hiking gear. She has done class 3 trails. She has a camel pack and she normally wears her gym clothes to go hiking and her running shoes. What other equipment do you think might be useful?
Depends on how much you want to spend. Sounds like she might need a good pair of hiking boots or hiking lowrise shoes.
If your on a lower budget make a gift "basket" w/ a backpack a water bottle, snacks high in protein to keep her going, maybe a book about local trails, and a new t-shirt or something.
If all else fails a gift card to your local outdoors store or a season pass to your state park where she goes hiking is always good.

A friend & I are flying back from Frankfurt nxt week after a short cycling holiday & we’re wondering what the chances are of our bicycles getting damage when being handled & placed among other luggage on board the plane etc? Also, I know that you need to put your bicycle in a bag or narrow box, do the airline supply these or would I have to purchase them from somewhere? Cheers all:-)
Pack it properly, and put all the removable parts in your other luggage. If you can, pack bubblewrap and plenty of cardboard around forks, springs, gears and reas shock (assuming you have full suss, not a racer.)
Should be OK, but the other answers are correct, you will need a shipping box there… and back ! So find out if you can store it someplace for the flight home. Get extra insurance too.
